Education:
Naturopathic doctors are doctors trained to provide primary care. They attend 4 years of medical training at an accredited naturopathic college (for information on accreditation check out the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education) and graduate with a doctoral degree in Naturopathic Medicine. After graduation they must past a licensing exam called the NPLEX (Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations) which is administered by the NABNE (North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners) check out https://www.nabne.org/ if you want to learn more about what the exams entail. Once the NPLEX has been successfully passed a doctor can apply for licensure with their state. Each state’s requirements vary slightly, in Washington state where I am licensed there is an application, a jurisprudence exam, yearly continuing education requirements, and you have to send transcripts proving that you actually graduated and passed the NPLEX.
